Highlights from the ll England Badminton Championships: P V Sindhu and Saina Nehwal, two of India's best shuttlers, started their All England Championships campaign with straight-game victories over their respective opponents in the women's singles on Wednesday.
Lakshya Sen and Kidambi Srikanth both advanced to the second round of the All England Open on the same day.
Sindhu overcame China's Zhi Yi Wang 21-18 21-13 in a 42-minute first-round match, while Saina defeated Spain's Beatriz Corrales 21-17 21-19 in 38 minutes.
Sindhu and Saina will meet in the quarterfinals if they win their respective second round matchups.
In the first round of men's singles, top seed and Olympic champion Viktor Axelsen defeated B Sai Praneeth 20-22 11-21 in a match that lasted 48 minutes. H S Prannoy lost 15-21 22-24 in 56 minutes to last week's German Open winner Thai player Kunlavut Vitidsarn, while Sameer Verma lost 18-21 11-21 in 41 minutes to Mark Caljouw of the Netherlands.
Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, seeded sixth, upset Scottish duo Alexander Dunn and Adam Hall 21-17 21-19 in 38 minutes in men's doubles.
