Sen, 20, failed on the edge of history after making too many
faults to lose 10-21 15-21 to former champion Axelsen in a lopsided summit
fight that lasted 53 minutes at the Barclaycard Arena after four days of
fantastic badminton.
"I believe the strategy was in place. I played him last
week, but he looked good tonight in both offence and defence. Sen commented
after the game, "He was really patient and played a very good game."
"I made a lot of mistakes in the first game, and it cost me the game."
In the second game, I was there, but he was too solid for me to put the shuttle
down."
After defeating reigning champion Lee Zii Jia in a gruelling
semifinal on Saturday, Sen became only the fifth Indian to reach the final of
the famous championship, joining Prakash Nath (1947), Prakash Padukone (1980,
1981), Pullela Gopichand (2001), and Saina Nehwal (2015).
