T Rajendar's Driver Arrested; Actor Simbu's Car Runs Over Pavement Dweller: Report

In a horrific turn of events, a car registered in the name of Tamil star Silambarasan aka Simbu knocked down a 70-year-old pedestrian on the streets of Chennai. The event is said to have occurred on March 18, but the footage of the incident became viral on Wednesday. Several local news outlets covered the storey. The car was an Innova, according to accounts, and T Rajendar's driver was behind the wheel while he was inside.

"According to DT Next, the event occurred on Friday night while Munusamy, a pavement dweller, was crawling across the Elango Salai-Poes Road intersection. The dead was seen seated in the middle of the road when the Innova car ran him over in a CCTV video that has circulated online. The automobile driver is said to have fled the scene.

Munusamy died after being transported to the hospital. He was said to have been hurt in the head, hip, and legs. He had already sustained leg injuries. Munusamy was said to have been removing a drainage blockage when the manhole cover fell on his leg, injuring him. He was crawling as a result of his injury."

"According to a storey in the Times of India, Rajendar reportedly got down 10 metres away from the accident scene and summoned an ambulance to assist Munusamy. He also allegedly requested that his driver, Selvam, take the victim to the hospital."

"The Pondy Bazaar traffic investigation wing police had earlier filed a case under sections 337 (causing harm to a person by doing any act rashly and negligently) and 279 (causing harm to a person by doing any act rashly and negligently)" (rash driving in public). The case was subsequently modified by adding a 304 (A) number (death caused due to negligent driving). The driver has been taken into custody.

"We have saved the CCTV camera footage of the accident for future reference," says the spokesperson "The newspaper was notified by a senior police officer. Meanwhile, Simbu's office responded to the viral video of the collision by claiming that miscreants were seeking to circulate false information about the incident in order to smear his reputation."
