'Beast,' the latest film from Superstar Vijay, was always expected to be a record-breaker, and the film appears to have done just that on Day 1. The film was well-received in Tamil Nadu and other regions of South India, with the Hindi version, titled 'Raw,' also contributing to the success. According to the most recent box office estimates, 'Beast' is on track to surpass 'Valimai' as Tamil Nadu's highest Day #1 box office collection.
According to recent estimates, 'Beast' has grossed between
30 and 35 crores in Tamil Nadu alone, and is on the verge of crossing the 50
crore mark in India (15 crores in the rest of India). The current box office
success of 'Beast,' at over 65 crores, is fairly outstanding when compared to
its worldwide figures, which are allegedly between 15 and 20 crores as of
today. If the numbers are correct, and night performances are excluded, 'Beast'
is on track to surpass 'Valimai' (Rs. 36.71 crores) as Tamil Nadu's all-time
top grosser on its first day.
However, 'Beast' has garnered mixed reviews from critics and
fans, and Day 2 should see a drop in its performance. With the prospect of
'K.G.F: Chapter 2' looming big from April 14th, with the picture controlling
close to 45 percent of the theatrical space in Tamil Nadu, 'Beast's box office performance
could take a significant hit. Vijay, Pooja Hegde, director Selvaraghavan, Yogi
Babu, Redin Kingsley, and others feature in 'Beast,' which was written and
directed by Nelson and produced by Kalanithi Maran.
