Mayawati did not respond to the PM's face-offer because she was afraid of the CBI, ED: Rahu Gandhi

 

NEW DELHI: In a surprise revelation to back up his allegation that the BJP government has been using investigative agencies to coerce political rivals, former.Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday claimed his party had offered analliance and chief minister's projection to BSP chief Mayawati in the recent UP polls, but she did not respond. He said not only did Mayawati steer clear of. Congress, but she practically did not contest the elections.

“But Mayawatiji is saying that | will not fight... she gave a clear passage to the ruling BJP. Why? (because of) CBI, the ED and Pegasus,” Rahul said, after releasing a book — The Dalit Truth — by his confidant K Raju here. He said the BSP chief did not fight for the people who were awakened by her party's founder Kanshi Ram. He said he respects Ram, even though Congress suffered during the phase he built the BSP. 

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    Congress and BSP fared disastrously in the UP polls, managing two seats and one seat, respectively, in a contest which turned out to be virtually a straight fight between BJP and SP.BSP has grown at the Congress's cost by taking over a big chunk of the latter's Dalit base, and continues to suspect Congress, with political circles attributing the wariness to a possible estimate that an alliance with the party might help relegitimise the Gandhis among the Dalits of UP. Congress poaching BSP MLAs in Rajasthan and Haryana has not helped assuage the misgivings.

Rahul said BR Ambedkar gave the Constitution as a weapon to the people, but the “Constitution has no meaning without the institutions” to implement it. He alleged that all the institutions are in the hands of RSS. He said the attack on the Constitution was not new, but started the day Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated.

“This is the reality of India. And when the Constitution becomes defunct, the weak  are the worst affected Dalits, minorities, tribals, the unemployed, small farmers and the poor.” Saying that economy and employment situation in the country are in dire straits, Rahul exhorted, “This is the time to fight.”
